Long-term residence permit or Long-term visa “studies” 

What and who is it for? The long-term visa or long-term residence permit for the purpose of studie is designed for non-EU citizens who wish to stay in the Czech Republic for the purpose of studying at a recognized educational institution. This includes university accredited study programme, exchange program participants, and some other study-related activities. 

Who qualifies for it? You may apply for this visa or Long-term residence permit if you are: accepted into a Czech university, college, or other accredited educational institution; participating in an exchange program or other study-related mobility schemes; enrolled in a language or preparatory course leading to higher education or attending a vocational or professional training program. 

The studies must be full-time and recognized as “study purposes” under Czech immigration law. 

 

How long is the permit valid for? The Long-term visa is typically issued for up to 12 months. The Long-term residence permit for studies can be issued for the expected duration of the study program, usually 1 - 2 years, with the possibility of its renewal.
